Paswan to address Parivartan rally on Oct 14

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of Steel, Fertilisers and Chemicals and Lok Janshakti Party national president Ram Vilas Paswan will address a 'Parivartan Divas Samaroh' at PMG Square in the city on Tuesday, according to party State in-charge Bhajaman Behera.

Hindu body opposes NIC meet

Bhubaneswar: Hindu Jagaran Sammukhya president Ashok Sahu has strongly objected to the proposed meeting of the National Integration Council (NIC) on October 13 in New Delhi called by the Prime Minister. Sahu alleged that with the presence of All Indian Christian Council general secretary John Dayal, who is involved in the controversy regarding the killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati in Kandhamal, there cannot be a free and fair discussion at the meeting.

Clerk swindles Rs 90,000 meant for hospital staff

Nimapara: Haribandhu Shrichandan, working as a clerk in Gop hospital, has disappeared after fraudulently withdrawing Rs 90,000 from a bank as the Dussehra advance of the hospital employees and personal deposit of an employee, Meera Sethy, worth Rs 40,000. According to hospital sources, instead of depositing Rs 90,000 in the employees' bank accounts, Shrichandan deposited the amount in his own account and then withdrew the money.

DAV School provides relief to flood victims

Bhubaneswar: A 40-member team of Pokhariput DAV School, under the leadership of School Disaster Management Committee chief Subhranshu Mohan Dash, provided relief to the flood victims at Nirmala village near Teisipur in Puri district during Dussehra. They distributed flattened rice, rice, sugar, polythene, clothes, matchboxes and candles among the affected villagers.

BJD Jan Sampark Yatra begins in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: Inaugurating the Jan Sampark Padayatra of the BJD at Sainpur gram panchayat here on Saturday, local MLA Bishnu Das said the programme would continue in the district till October 16 and party supporters would visit each GP to spread the messages of success of the Naveen Patnaik Government. In the first phase on Saturday, the yatra started in Jagatsinghpur and Naugaon blocks. In several villages, the BJD leaders received a warm welcome. They interacted with the villagers regarding their problems.

Free health checkup camp at Degaon Yogashram

Balangir: A free health checkup camp was organised at Shakti Bhavan Yogashram of Degaon, 20 km from here, during the Durga Puja. In all, 250 persons’ health was examined by Dr Sibabrata Das and free medicines were given to them. Besides the celebration of the Durga Puja with strict rituals in the ashram, a Naam Yajna was held and clothes were distributed to beggars and disabled people by Swami Shakti Bhusnananda Saraswati and Swami Jaya Kishorananda Saraswati.

Training camps on bio agriculture held in Gajapati

Parlakhemundi: Training camps on biological agriculture organised by two NGOs, Prava and NCOF of Gajapati district were held at G Kistapur and Baijalaguda villages of the district. In these camps, about 70 farmers of Gumma and Kashinagar blocks were trained on the usage of biological fertilisers, vermiculture, green fertilisers, compost, bacterial fertilisers and the medicinal qualities of Neem plant. Gajapati DAO S Chandrashekhar Rao, JAO of Gumma A Ramprasad Patra and Kashinagar JAO M Srinibas Rao trained the farmers. The camps were managed by Laxmikanta Panda, Bijaylaxmi Dalapati and secretary of Prava A Aparao.
