Advani flays PM’s statement on Muslims’ first claim to resources

Staff Reporter | New Delhi

NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday for having stated that the minorities, especially Muslims, should have first claim to resources.

Advani said that the first claim should go to anyone who is poor, be it a Muslim, a Christian or a Dalit. He promised that the NDA Government, if it comes to power, would ensure best education possible to all sections of people.

Advani was speaking in an interaction with young students from IIT Delhi, Delhi University and others organised by India Banao, an apolitical platform that acts as an interface between political leaders and the youth. Economist and author Sanjeev Sanyal, film producer Sheetal Talwar and Sanjeev Bikhchandani, CEO, Naukri.com were also present on the occasion.

Advani said that in Kerala while the Muslim students are given an annual grant of about Rs 14000, the SC/ST students get only Rs 275 annually.

“This reality has to be changed,” he added. The NDA Government, he said, would ensure that even the poorest student will receive financial aid to complete his or her education and improve their ability to find jobs that match their talents and abilities. “There will be employment for all,” he added.

Stating quality education and employment to all as utmost priority of the five point agenda prepared by the NDA, Advani said that better security, protection of India's environment and the transformation of the rural as well as urban India will be given equal importance.

"We will ensure security so that you are able to live and travel without fear. The problems of terrorism and naxalism will be tackled with heavy hand," said Advani. He criticized politicians and intellectuals questioning the intentions of Delhi Police officer Mool Chand Shrama who martyred fighting against terrorists in the Batla House encounter.

"How can we expect restrains on such people from the Government which has been protecting Afzal Guru - convicted in the Parliament attack in nine security people died. Their families have even returned the honours to protest in the delay in execution of the Afzal," said Advani. He appealed that youth to participate in the elections and participate in India's social and economic development.

Hails Moon mission

NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation for the to-be launch of its spaceship Chandrayaan - I to the Moon. He said that today our scientists are carrying the national flag to moon and soon an Indian will also reach there. “Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had announced the launch of Chandrayaan in his Independence Day address in 2003 and the scientists at ISRO have now made it into a reality,” says Advani
