Cross-LoC infiltration has decreased: India
PTI | New Delhi
Ahead of the Indo-Pak Foreign Ministerial talks, New Delhi today said the cross-LoC infiltration has witnessed a decline recently which augurs well for pushing the composite dialogue process and considering more confidence-building measures.
New Delhi feels that the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in New York in September had marked a change in Islamabad's attitude, providing positive impetus to the relations that had witnessed a low after the July 7 attack on Indian embassy in Kabul.
The two sides will seek to build on the "positive" atmospherics when Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi undertakes a four-day visit here from November 26 to hold talks with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
During the talks, cross-border terrorism and Pakistan's ability to curb it will remain high on agenda as far as India is concerned, sources said.
The two sides will also discuss other issues, including Kashmir, Sir Creek, trade and confidence-building measures, they said but made it clear that nothing spectacular should be expected from the talks.
On cross-LoC infiltration, the sources said it has witnessed a decline since third week of July, much before climatic conditions turned harsh in the mountains.
However, India is keeping its fingers crossed and watching whether it is a permanent trend of a short-term one.
