Lakhimpur Kheri tiger trapped

Pioneer News Service | Lucknow

The forest officials tranquilized and captured the Lakhimpur Kheri maneater on Sunday evening at Maharajnagar village in Kheri.

The three-year-old tiger will be brought to the Lucknow Zoo and is expected to reach here on late Sunday night or Monday morning. The captured tiger was tranquilized by Ajan Mazumdar of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI).

After capturing the big cat, the Forest officials heaved a sigh of relief. The tiger concerned had created panic in the villages of Kheri by attacking unsuspecting victims while working in the sugarcane fields. During the last one and a half month, the tiger had claimed more than six persons dragging the victims out of their huts.

Chief Wildlife Warden BK Patnaik confirmed that the tiger was tranquilized and captured.

He said that there was no possibility of the release of the tiger . “This case will be seriously studied as the maneater had claimed a number of lives. The tiger will be in all possibility kept in a Zoo,” said Patnaik.

Lakhimpur Kheri DFO KK Singh said that the tiger had come creeping to the bait when it was tranquilized and quickly captured. “As soon it was tranquilized, it was pushed very fast into the cage. The tiger is possibly three-year-old and has been very active in this region for quite sometime,” Singh said.

With capturing the tiger, the Forest official solved the second case of stray tiger in the state.

Recently, the Faizabad stray tigress was shot dead. The only stray tiger yet to be tamed is that of Ghazipur where the animal is causing problem for local residents and has created panic in the adjoining areas.
