Seminar on infertility problems organised at CMI Hospital

PNS | Dehradun

A seminar focusing on infertility problems among men and women was organised by CMI Hospital on Tuesday. Addressing the participants, Dr KR Sharma from Udaipur medical college asserted that pinpointing the exact cause of infertility is difficult. About a third of fertility problems occur solely in women, one third in men and the remaining third are mutual. The most common cause among men is a low sperm count. He blamed environmental factor including food, water, air and pollution involving chemicals for that. He said that another common problem is poor sperm quality and some men's ejaculate contains antibodies to their own sperm. He said that it would be totally unfair to blame women for infertility problems.

Dr Nutan Jain from Muzzafarnagar acquainted participants about various aspects of Laproscopic surgeries. She said that infertility problems among women could be easily curable with Laproscopic methods and with a change of time men and women have started coming more for operations. She said failure to ovulate (including polycystic ovary syndrome); blocked fallopian tubes (due to endometriosis, for example) and the production of antibodies to a partner's sperm were among the main causes for infertility among women.

Dr Anupama Gupta from Akansha IVF centre, Agra expressed her views about the role of IVF technology and related advanced techniques. She said that it is hard to pinpoint which of the many possible factors is the cause of a couple's infertility as for both men and women there can be several factors.

Dr Sumita Prabhakar, organising secretary informed that it was for the first time in the state that a seminar focusing infertility problems among men and women held for doctors and specialists.
