Congress to dent BJP’s ex-servicemen bastion

Friday, 14 September 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

In an attempt to dent the rival Bharatiya Janata Party’s ex- servicemen bastion, the State Congress has decided to hold ‘Shaheed Naman programmes in different parts of the State.

Informing the media persons about the plan, the State co in-charge of Congress, Rajesh Dharmani said on Thursday that the party leaders would visit the houses of  the martyrs and meet their family members during the programme.

He said that all the senior leaders of the party would participate in the programme during which the problems of the families of the martyrs would be heard out. Lambasting BJP for paying just lip services for the martyrs, the Congress leader reminded the saffron party’s promise of connecting the houses of  the Kargil war martyrs with metalled road. “It is yet to be fulfilled,” he said.

Terming BJP as a pack of liars, Dharmani said that Congress is determined to call the saffron bluff. He said that the party leaders and workers would start an extensive campaign from October 2 during which they would remind the people of the false and unfulfilled promises dished out by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said that the party has started a drive to make its organisation strong and claimed that the party would make a clean sweep of all the five Lok Sabha seats up for grabs in the State.

He said that the newly nominated district presidents of the party have been asked to form their district units to help the party plunge into the  election mode sans glitch. The Congress leader, further, said that the district and block level committees would be constituted by September 25.

Emphasising the need to build up robust organisation at the booth levels, Dharmani added that senior party leaders should work in coordination to strengthen the party.

Accepting the role of social media in campaigning, he said that the party believes in positive things and would not follow the saffron brigade’s malicious mode of campaigning.
