BJP lodges complaint of election model code violation

Friday, 06 September 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Chhattisgarh BJP on Thursday lodged a complaint before Election Commission of India raising allegations of election model code of conduct violation by Congress party during the last day of filing of nomination papers.

Addressing the media, BJP state president Vikram Usendi said a memorandum has been handed over to Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh citing instances of violation of election model code of conduct.

He said the Medka Dobhra ground of temple premises has been used against the          committee’s decision not to be used for political meeting. “The Returning Officer is a  relative of Chief Minister so we suspect there will be no level playing field in Dantewada   by-poll,” he said.

Former minister Brijmohan Agrawal said, “We had raised doubt over free and fair election as the state government is misusing the powers. Government  had notified 82% reservation, released interim probe report of Bhima Mandavai killing, CM and other leaders reach by plane to participate  in nomination    filing, public meeting held in temple premises, collector is a relative of CM and other such issues have been raised.”

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said discussion was also held to depute CRPF personnel in each polling booth and security issues during the campaigning. He said instead of sticking to timing allocated to political parties, Returning Officer changed timings for the Congress which caused inconvenience to all other political party candidates as September 4 was the last day for filing of nomination papers.
