CM Yogi meets family of slain Hindu outfit leader

Monday, 21 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Family members of slain controversial leader of Hindu Samaj Party, Kamlesh Tiwari, met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded death sentence for the killers.

Tiwari’s mother, wife and three sons met the Chief Minister at his 5, Kalidas Marg official residence and were there for over 30 minutes.

The Chief Minister assured the family of all help and said the police were doing their job and the guilty would not be spared.

An officer privy to the meeting told this reporter that the Chief Minister listened intently to the family members who demanded a government job for Tiwari’s son, security to the family and an arms licence to them for security. They also demanded that Khurshedbagh be renamed as Kamlesh park and a statue of Kamlesh Tiwari be installed in the park.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Chief Minister, the slain leader’s wife, Kiran, said, “Yogi Adityanath has assured us of every possible action in the matter. We feel satisfied after meeting him. Our demand is that the killers should be given capital punishment.”

Tiwari’s mother Kusuma said, “I told the Chief Minister that I want justice for my son and stringent punishment to the killers. We have been assured this by the Chief Minister, and by giving the assurance, the Chief Minister has given many things.”

However, on reaching Sitapur, Kusuma changed her statement and said that she was not happy after meeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath because he did not look serious and concerned about our plight and his reaction was not sympathetic towards us.

“We were forced to go to Lucknow and meet the Chief Minister. The local administration was after us saying the Chief Minister wants to meet us. As per Hindu ritual, a family does not move out of house before terahvin  (13 day ritual) still we were forced to go there,” Kusuma Tiwari told reporters in Sitapur on Sunday.

“I wanted to ask the Chief Minister why his (Kamlesh’s) security was pruned but was not allowed to ask this question. The response we wanted or we were looking for from the Chief Minister was not there,” she said.

Recently, a video surfaced in which Kamlesh Tiwari is seen criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for reducing his security.

In the video, Tiwari is seen saying that he will be killed as some Muslim fundamentalists are after him.

Kamlesh Tiwari, 45, was earlier associated with a faction of Hindu Mahasabha. He was killed at his residence-cum-office in Khurshedbagh here on Friday.

His cremation was delayed as the family members were adamant on meeting the Chief Minister to put forth their nine demands, including a probe by the National Investigation Agency, a government job for one of the sons of the victim and security for them.
