School van without children catches fire, driver unhurt

n Sensation prevailed at Gandhi Nagar area on Airport road after a moving school van caught fire during the day on Tuesday; at the time of the incident only driver was present who escaped unhurt.

In-charge of Gandhi Nagar police station Tarun Bhati said that the registration number of the vehicle, engine number and chassis number were damaged and further investigation has been started.

Bhati failed to provide details of the van details as it was beyond recognition but locals claimed that it was school van which used to pick and drop students of Eastern Public School (EPS) at Abbas Nagar.

The incident took place in the afternoon when the driver after dropping children to school was returning back when it reached state hanger square of airport road fire suddenly erupted which was probably due to a short circuit.

Soon after the van caught fire driver escaped the car and after fire brigade was informed fire tender vehicles rushed to the spot and it took around half an hour to pacify the fire.

Police team reached the spot and enquired about the incident but no complaint was lodged by the driver or owner and no was found at the spot.

Meanwhile, in another incident of fire a moving car drove by retired Naib Tehsildar caught fire near a car showroom in the night on Monday at Chunbhatti area; no was injured in the incident.

At around 8 in the night when PS Bedi of Uddhanchal Nagar reached Janaki Nagar smoke started to come out from bonnet after which he immediately parked the vehicle and escaped the car. The fire soon engulfed the car and damaged it severely.
