In view of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a potential aerial threat alert was issued by the Air Force Station in Ambala and Chandigarh on Friday morning. Following the alert, the district officers concerned advised the residents to remain indoors and away from balconies.
In Ambala, the Deputy Commissioner, Ajay Singh Tomer, said that an air warning threat alert had been received from the Air Force Station. Sirens were sounded and all residents had been advised to remain indoors and away from balconies and venture out in case of urgency only for the next two hours, he said.
This was the first such alert sounded in Ambala during the ongoing conflict. On Thursday night, the Deputy Commissioner advised the residents to immediately respond to the situation. “Keeping in view the ongoing emergency situation, all the residents are requested to immediately respond to the sound of the siren and switch off all the lights and also are advised not to venture outside or on the rooftops,” he added.
Tomer said that all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnic institutes, will also remain closed in the district till May 10.
In Chandigarh, a potential aerial threat alert was also issued on Friday by the Air Force Station, prompting authorities to initiate emergency protocols across the city. Sirens were sounded in multiple areas following the warning, signalling residents to take immediate precautionary measures.
Talking to Journalists, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said, “This is a precautionary measure in view of an air warning received from the Air Force Station. The sounding of air warning sirens is also part of preparatory measures. Citizens are advised to stay calm, remain inside their homes, ignore the rumours and await further instructions from official sources.”
He further said, “Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and security measures have been heightened across key locations in the city. We are fully geared up to deal with any exigency arising out of the current situation following escalating tension between India and Pakistan.”
