Haryana Police issues directions to maintain law and order on Eid-ul-Zuha


Chandigarh: Ahead of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) festival, Haryana Police on Thursday issued comprehensive guidelines to maintain law and order. The festival will be celebrated on June 7, 8 and 9. In a statement, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur has instructed all Police Commissioners, District Superintendents of Police, and field units to remain vigilant and ensure communal harmony. He also emphasized that maintaining peace, law, and order in the state is of utmost priority, and officers have been directed to ensure a harmonious atmosphere at all costs. DGP directed that meetings with peace committees be held at the district level and that advance monitoring of the law and order situation be ensured. It must be ensured that no untoward incident occurs during the festival, it stated.

UT Administrator hands over appointment letters to 198 newly appointed TGTs


Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 198 newly appointed Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) at a ceremony organized by the Education Department of the Chandigarh Administration.  In his address, the Governor complimented the Chief Secretary for effectively leading the department in conducting a fully transparent and structured recruitment process for 993 posts across various teaching cadres. He appreciated the tireless efforts of the team that designed and implemented a systematic and fair selection procedure. This move also adds to the existing strength of 2,197 Trained Graduate Teachers, further enhancing the quality of education in government schools across the city.

Hry Governor unveils art painting based on World Environment Day 2025


Chandigarh: Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya on Thursday unveiled an art painting based on the theme of World Environment Day 2025. The painting was designed by Harpreet Sandhu, State Information Commissioner, Punjab, aimed at underlining the importance of World Environment Day and spreading the message for positive environmental change by uniting society. He extended his warm greetings to the people of the state, environment lovers and all stakeholders on the occasion of World Environment Day. In line with this year's theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, he emphasized the importance of collective efforts for environmental protection. The Governor said plastic pollution is one of the most serious environmental challenges today, which is adversely affecting human health, biodiversity and climate. He called upon citizens, organizations and industries to reduce single-use plastic, improve waste management and adopt eco-friendly alternatives.

Hry Speaker reviews preparations for national ULB conference in Gurugram


Chandigarh: Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan reviewed the preparations for the National Conference of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to be held in the first week of July, with the concerned officers. The Lok Sabha has handed over the hosting of this conference to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Representatives of urban local body institutions from all the states and union territories of the country will participate in the conference.  Kalyan said the conference is proposed to be organized in the first week of July. More than 500 delegates from all the states and union territories of the country will participate in this conference. The main venue of this conference will be Yashobhoomi located in Dwarka adjacent to Gurugram, while the accommodation of all the delegates will be arranged in Gurugram.

Over 70,000 citizens register for Statewide Yoga Mahotsav in Haryana


Chandigarh: More than 70,000 people across all districts of Haryana have registered to participate in the Yoga Mahotsav, making it one of the largest Yoga Day celebrations in the country. The Haryana AYUSH Department has announced a grand celebration of International Yoga Day 2025, to be observed across the state on June 21. A government spokesperson said the celebrations are centred around the theme ‘Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt’, reinforcing the dual objectives of promoting holistic health and creating an addiction-free society. The slogan also aligns with the government’s broader vision of encouraging a healthy, mindful, and environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Special campaign “Plastic Mukt Chandigarh” launched to mark World Environment Day

 

Chandigarh: Reaffirming its commitment to a cleaner and greener future, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh on Thursday launched a special campaign titled “Plastic Mukt Chandigarh” to mark World Environment Day. The campaign was officially launched by city Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla in the presence of MC Commissioner Amit Kumar. According to officials, the highlight of the campaign was the introduction of an innovative initiative – the “Cloth Bag ATM”. Installed by the NGO I HATE POLYTHENE, this machine dispenses eco-friendly cloth bags at a nominal cost of Rs 10, which is fully refundable upon return. The Municipal Corporation also organized a special plantation drive at the Community Center in Sarangpur. The event was celebrated under the banner of “Women for Trees – An AMRUT Mitra Initiative”, emphasizing the crucial role women play in protecting and nurturing the environment.
