Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced construction of a state-of-the-art auditorium in North-East Delhi. Drawing a parallel with national icons such as Bharat Mandapam and YashoBhoomi, she said a similar high-quality auditorium in Yamuna Par will benefit both educational institutions and the local community.
The Chief Minister said this while presiding over the 61st annual day and Sashtipoorthi (completion of 60 years) celebrations of Shyam Lal College as the chief guest. The occasion was also marked by the presence of Member of Parliament Manoj Kumar Tiwari, MLA Jitendra Mahajan and Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, as guests of honour.
To commemorate the milestone, the Chief Minister planted a sapling near the Ganesh Temple on the college campus and later felicitated the toppers and outstanding performers of the college.
During her address, Rekha Gupta lauded the journey of Shyam Lal College over the past six decades and fondly recalled her own student days at the University of Delhi. She shared that Shyam Lal College, which once faced several challenges, has now transformed into a prestigious institution.
Reflecting on the growth, she mentioned that a student of Shyam Lal College has now become an MLA, and she herself as the student of Delhi University is now the Chief Minister, underscoring that with hard work and dedication, every student can achieve great heights in life.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the remarkable progress of the college is a result of the dedication and efforts of all stakeholders and has made Shyam Lal College one of the most esteemed institutions in East Delhi under Delhi University.
Highlighting the infrastructural needs of the region, Rekha Gupta announced the construction of a state-of-the-art auditorium in North-East Delhi.
Appreciating the contributions of Shyam Lal College, the Chief Minister acknowledged its commendable initiatives in areas such as environmental awareness through green festivals, village adoption programs, and technology-based events, among others.
In her address to the youth, she called upon students to contribute to nation-building and encouraged them to take a pledge “Ek Kam Desh Ke Naam”. She said whether small or big, every action should be aimed at positively impacting society and the country.
On this occasion, Principal of the College, Professor Rabi Narayan Kar presented the annual report, showcasing the achievements and progress of the institution. He highlighted the college’s active contribution to
academic reforms and its dedication to the overall development of its students.
