DDCA receives hoax threat to blast Arun Jaitley Stadium

Saturday, 10 May 2025 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Friday received a hoax threat email claiming to blast the Arun Jaitley Stadium in retaliation for the ongoing “Operation Sindoor” carried out by the Indian armed forces against Pakistan.

A police complaint has been registered against the sender of the mail, and teams of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and dog squad, along with Delhi Police teams rushed to the stadium, after which, the threat turned out to be hoax, an official said.

“We received a bomb threat via email on the address of Delhi and District Cricket Association. We immediately forwarded it to Delhi Police. The Delhi Police bomb squad came and inspected the whole venue. Nothing was found,” DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma said.

Sources in the Delhi Police said that multiple teams were immediately rushed to the stadium and the location was checked thoroughly.

“Nothing suspicious was found. Further, we have stepped up security in and around the stadium,” said the source.

According to officials, the email read, “There will be a bomb blast in your stadium. We have a committed Pakistan sleeper cell active in India. The blast will be our revenge for “Operation Sindoor.”

Prior to the bomb threat, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi had already hosted four home matches of DC in the IPL 2025 season.

Their final home match of the campaign for Delhi Capitals at this venue was slated to happen on Sunday, May 11, against Gujarat Titans, but with the immediate suspension of the league, everything is now up in the air in regards to the schedule.
