Rain brings relief in Madhya Pradesh, similar weather likely to continue till May 11

Weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh remained largely unchanged on Thursday, with rainfall reported in several districts and a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), about one inch of rain fell in Dhar, while light showers were recorded in Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Shivpuri, Mandla, and Seoni. Cloud cover prevailed throughout the day in Bhopal, followed by a brief appearance of the sun in the evening. The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7°C, while Indore logged 30.8°C, Gwalior 35.4°C, Ujjain 30.4°C, and Jabalpur 35.7°C. Pachmarhi remained the coolest at 30°C. No city in the state breached the 40°C mark, with Narsinghpur recording the highest temperature at 39.4°C.

Meteorologists attributed the changing weather to the influence of a Western Disturbance, a turf system, and cyclonic circulation. IMD has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds (40–50 km/h), and isolated hailstorms across multiple districts. These include Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, and Khargone. Thunderstorm warnings have also been issued for Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Maihar, and Pandhurna.

Over the last 24 hours, rainfall was reported at isolated locations in Indore, Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Rewa, and Sagar divisions, while it remained dry elsewhere. Day temperatures dropped by 2.2°C to 2.9°C in parts of Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram, and Ujjain divisions, and were significantly below normal—by 5.1°C to 11.5°C—in several districts of Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram, Ujjain, and Gwalior. Night temperatures rose slightly in Bhopal, Narmadapuram, and Sagar, but dropped appreciably in Indore and remained below normal in most other divisions. The IMD predicts similar weather conditions to continue across the state until May 11.

The rainfall and cooler temperatures have brought much-needed relief to residents amid the early onset of summer, especially in regions that had been experiencing a steady rise in heat over the past few weeks. Farmers in rain-affected districts have welcomed the showers, as they are expected to improve soil moisture levels, benefiting pre-monsoon agricultural activities. However, authorities have advised caution, particularly in areas under alert, as sudden thunderstorms and gusty winds could pose risks to life and property.
