Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has constituted eight committees of the House for the financial year 2025-26 to ensure efficient functioning of legislative business. The newly constituted committees include six new committees, in addition to two existing ones — the Business Advisory Committee and the Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions.
The newly formed committees are the Committee on Government Assurances, Committee on Petitions, Rules Committee, Questions & References Committee, General Purposes Committee, and Library Committee.
Speaker Gupta will chair multiple committees, including the Business Advisory Committee, General Purposes Committee, Library Committee, and the Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions. Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and several senior MLAs have also been appointed to key roles across various committees.
The Business Advisory Committee, led by Speaker which includes Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Whip Abhay Verma, OP Sharma, and five other MLAs. This committee will plan and schedule Assembly business.
The Committee on Government Assurances will be chaired by MLA Neeraj Basoya. It will monitor the fulfilment of promises made by ministers in the House. Members include Raj Karan Khatri, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Poonam Sharma, and four others.
MLA Surya Prakash Khatri will head the Committee on Petitions, which will examine petitions submitted by the public. Its members include Harish Khurana, Sandeep Sehrawat, and Shikha Roy, among others.
The Rules Committee, responsible for reviewing Assembly procedures and rules, will be chaired ex-officio by the Speaker. It will include the Deputy Speaker and seven MLAs.
In the Questions & References Committee, which deals with matters raised during Assembly sessions, Deputy Speaker Bisht will serve as Chairperson. Members include Ravinder Singh Negi, Arvinder Singh Lovely and Tarvinder Singh Marwah.
The General Purposes Committee, which handles administrative and procedural matters, will again be headed by Gupta and include Bisht and seven MLAs. Speaker Vijender Gupta will also chair the Library Committee, with Deputy Speaker Bisht and MLAs Pradyumn Singh Rajput, Neelam Pehalwan, and Sanjay Goel among its members.
The Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions will review bills and proposals introduced by non-ministerial MLAs. Gupta is the Chairperson, with members including Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Sharma, and Arvinder Singh Lovely.
Additionally, on April 1, the Speaker announced the formation of three critical financial committees: the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Committee on Government Undertakings, and Committee on Estimates. These nine-member committees include six BJP MLAs and three from the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The PAC, which will examine recent CAG reports on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), health, air pollution, and excise, includes BJP MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Arvinder Singh Lovely, and Shikha Rai, along with AAP’s Atishi, Kuldeep Kumar, and Virendra Singh Kadiyan.
The Committee on Government Undertakings will review financial mismanagement revealed in CAG reports of the AAP government. Members include BJP’s Deepak Chaudhary and Gajendra Dral, as well as AAP’s Sanjiv Jha and Ajay Dutt.
The Estimates Committee, which reviews budget allocations, includes BJP MLAs Gajendra Singh Yadav, Harish Khurana, and AAP MLAs Imran Hussain and Vishesh Ravi.
