As India’s tensions with Pakistan intensify, the Madhya Pradesh chapter of the All India Ulema Board has called for special prayers across the state on Friday.
In a statement released in the state capital, Board President Qazi Syed Anas Ali urged mosque committees and Imams throughout Madhya Pradesh to lead collective prayers for India’s victory and Pakistan’s defeat after the weekly sermons. The call follows a Pakistan-sponsored attack on innocent civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Following the cowardly attack in Pahalgam, a war has now begun,” the letter reads. “This is the time we should pray for India’s success and the enemy’s downfall from our mosques.” The statement also appeals for special duas for the nation’s peace, prosperity, and stability.
It reflects the growing role of religious bodies in shaping public sentiment during periods of conflict. The appeal comes in the wake of ‘Operation Sindoor’—India’s retaliatory strike on May 7 targeting terror camps in Pakistan.
The strike was a response to the brutal killing of 28 Indian tourists on April 23 in Baisaran Valley, Jammu and Kashmir. Security sources say hundreds of militants from Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba were eliminated. Public support for the military operation continues to swell.
