Gitanjali selected as national games official

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Judo association secretary Gitanjali Panda has been selected as technical official for the National Games to be held at Jharkhand in November. Among 10 others national official she is the first Odiya judoka to be selected as the official. Late Biranchi Das’s wife and second dan black belt holder Geetanjali will be the official for the judo national games.

Kiran wins in world junior chess

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s woman international master (WIM) Kiran Manisha Mohanty defeated WIM Kalinina Olga of Ukraine in the 10th round and scored 6.5 points and ranked eighth in the World Junior (U-20) Girls Chess Championship held at Puerto Madryn in Argentina on Sunday. In eleventh round Mohanty will meet WFM Tjolsen Katrine of Norway.

WIM Padmini Rout split points with Umudova Nargiz of Azerbaijan and scored 5.5 points and ranked 12th by the end of tenth round. She will meet Fernandez Maria Florencia on Monday.
