Jail warden shot, injured in city

In a shocking incident, a warden of Jharpada Special Jail was shot by unidentified miscreants on Sunday evening near the jail under Laxmisagar police station in the city.
Sources said two unidentified miscreants on a motor- bike fired two rounds at Manas Ranjan Nayak and fled from the spot. The injured warden was rushed to Ayush Hospital for treatment. The police are investigating into the incident and have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants. Old enmity is suspected to be the motive behind the attack on the warder.
Meanwhile, the Cuttack police on Saturday arrested two members of a dacoit’s gang who were planning to loot a petrol pump in the outskirts of the city but four other managed to dodge and escape from the clutches of the cops. Two revolvers, 1 chopper, 16 round live cartridges, 300 gm gold and 1 kg of silver ornaments has been seized from the arrested criminals. The police are on the lookout and are different possible hideouts to arrest the rest four of their associates.
According to police sources, six criminals had assembled on in old industrial estate of Jagatpur and were planning to loot a petrol pump in the area. On being tipped off, ACP, Prabhat Kumar Pradhan and IIC Jagatpur PS immediately raided the area with other officers and arrested the two criminals while the rest four manage to flee from the spot. The arrested duos are Santosh Gochhayat alias Dhanda of Badasamantarapur, Choudwar and Sangram Behura alias Badal of Tangi in the district, said, Cuttack DCP Amitendranath Sinha at a Press meet.
