Bhadrak women allege mid-day meal rice scam

Pioneer News Service | Bhadrak

About 200 women met the sub-collector of Bhadrak alleging misappropriation of mid-day meal (MDM) rice, supplied to primary school students of Belda by Maa Dakhinachandi of village Belda of Ganijang GP under Bonth Block.

The guardians allege that with the connivance of the headmaster of Mundasahi Project Primary School, Belda, the SSG has been stealing the MDM rice from August 2009. Most of the tribal, Dalit and poor students of the school are deprived of getting their mid day meal.

Sources said despite repeated requests to the collector, the DSWO and the Bonth BDO, no enquiry or action has been taken to prevent pilferaging of the rice. Parents reposing confidence on the sub-collector expressed their complaint, who assured them to conduct a thorough enquiry and bring the culprits to book. The people suggested to handover the mid-day meal responsibility to Bande Purusottampur SSG Group.
