Gone are the days when brides made a last-minute rush to the shaadi ka mandap direct out of the beauty parlour. Time has changed and so have the requirements. These days brides, as well as grooms, start their preparation for marriage well in advance. With the marriage season round the corner, city doctors claim, a number of would-be-brides and bridegrooms visits hospitals for cosmetic surgical procedures like nose jobs, liposuction, breast implant and breast reduction. Non-surgical processes like skin-smoothening and removing wrinkles are also in vogue. Also they consult dieticians for a right dietary regimen.
“There has been 25 per cent increase in the number of patients coming for cosmetic surgeries in our hospital. Nose jobs among women and breast reduction among men are the most sought-after procedures,” said Dr Anup Dhir, senior consultant, cosmetic surgery department at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. He said that majority of the patients are brides and grooms.
“Young people are very conscious about the body control and physical features. They spend around Rs 1 lakh to 2 lakh to enhance their physical appearance. Liposuction and nose jobs all cost above Rs 50,000 and are generally conducted five months in advance. Those who need immediate treatment before the marriage go for minor changes like scar revision and intake of chemical pills for skin smoothening, botox injection or filler injection for straightening of the wrinkles,” said Dhir.
Director of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at Max Hospital, Saket, Sunil Choudhary said for the past few months, the hospital has been receiving six to seven patients daily, which is quite high. “We have got laboratory for ultrasonic liposuction in which there is lesser bleeding and the healing time is also short. Brides prefer this because they want to recover as fast as possible,” said Choudhary. But many brides and grooms approach dieticians seeking health tips for better physical appearance through natural process.
Wellness centers like VLCC and Kaya Clinic too have started special pre-bridal packages that include hair trimming, aroma scalp massage, radiance facial, waxing, bleaching, body polishing, manicure and pedicure. “In our hospital, we give health tips to would-be-brides and grooms. We advise them on what to eat days before marriage and what kind of exercise one should do to enhance appearance,” said Ritika Samadhar, head dietician, Max Hospital.
