It is India which blinked on talks, says Qureshi

PTI | Islamabad

Hours after India proposed dates for Foreign Secretary-level talks, Pakistan has claimed that it was New Delhi which had blinked not Islamabad.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that it was India which had talked about breaking their "relationship" with us and their turning their back on us.

"But two days ago, India has approached and said they want to sit and talk to us and want to resume their relationship with us," Qureshi told a public meeting in Multan in Punjab yesterday.

"Pakistan hasn't knelt... It didn't kneel. Pakistan held its ground," the Pakistan Foreign Minister indulging in rhetorics as a build up to the talks has started.

Qureshi said that Pakistan would present its case before India claiming "our case is strong. It's not weak, whether it be Kashmir or water or any other issue."

"Pakistan has a clear stance regarding every issue be it Kashmir or the water issue and we would not step back from their stance," he said.

Under the composite dialogue eight issues including Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism were discussed in four rounds of talks before it was "paused" in November 2008 in the wake of Mumbai attacks.

By N.ASTI on 2/9/2010 10:55:57 AM

Does the Congress Govt led by MMS/Sonia know what is called "NATION'S PRIDE"?In this particular case it is of no use to blame Pakistan.Indian establishment has unnecessarily got the Nation insulted by such a small country like Pak.Pak has declared it will protect its interest during talks.Congress govt on its own opted to include Balochistan, and kept mum on protecting National interest. The whole world would laugh at such a foolish Govt.

Bullet Pakistan and its terrorism
By Vijay Patel on 2/8/2010 9:22:44 PM

Best way India can deal with Pakistan inspired terrorism is to stop all dealings with them. The best proof is last one year. As soon as India starts talking with them, the Pakistan govt. feels politically safe and starts their terrorist activity against us. Our politicians don't care enough for us as they don't have to face those terrorists. If they need such high level of security, why they think ordinary citizens are safe? Pakistan will never be India's good neighbour as that country's ideals.

Bullet Why the UPA is bent upon insulting us ?
By KSV SUBRAMANIAN on 2/8/2010 4:07:38 PM

Pakistan is incorrigible. Everybody knows that Pakistani affairs are dictated by military and ISI ad they are bent upon destroying India. Then why this volte face to talk to Pakistan? Is there any guarantee that terrorists will not be trained and pushed into India ? Is there any guarantee that no Mumbai type attack will not be staged in future ? Have they punished all the conspirators still freely spewing anti-India venom in Pakistan. Should we the public be subjected to such ridicule ?
