Towering relief for Noida mobile subscribers

In a major relief to service providers and millions of mobile users, the Allahabad High Court on Monday ordered the Noida Authority to de-seal all mobile towers of Vodafone, Airtel and Indus within 48 hours.

The court has given a three-week deadline to service providers to complete the guidelines chalked out by Noida. According to Noida Authority officials, the court directives mention that service providers/operators like Airtel and Vodafone has obtained the relief just like Idea Cellular Service got last week on Friday

Noida additional CEO PN Batham said, "The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has given order to de-seal the towers of Airtel, Vodafone and Indus within 48 hours.” A total of 49 towers of Vodafone, 74 towers of Airtel and 23 towers of Indus have been installed in Noida. Mobile service providers companies like Reliance, Aircel, Tata, MTNL and BSNL are not in the list to gain the benefits of latest order of the court. A total of 23 towers of Reliance, 14 towers of MTNL/BSNL, nine towers of Tata Indicom and three towers of Aircel are rendering the services. The functioning of the software industry and BPOs in the high-tech city was affected. Noida has a population of around seven lakhs and over four lakh cellphone users. NOIDA issued an 18-point guideline for erection of towers and gave a 15-day deadline for submission of documents by service providers on January 29. Noida sealed over 223 out of 572 mobile towers in Noida.

Meanwhile, villagers in Gautam Buddha Nagar district are set to stage protest against the mobile sealing drive of Noida. A meeting was held between the villagers of Sarhada, Mamoora, Morna, Chaproli and Hoshiyarpur on Monday. Around 150 mobile towers are installed in 53 villages of the district.
