The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India level entrance exam for those who seek admission to postgraduate programmes (Master's and Doctoral) with MHRD and other Government scholarships or assistantships in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science are open in top engineering colleges of India including all campuses of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). This time, Gate 2018 will be conducted by IIT Guwahati at all centres across India. GATE 2018 will be chaired by Prof G Pugazhenthi, who is a Chemical Engineering Professor in IIT Guwahati from last two years. It is speculated that over 10 lakh aspirants will enroll themselves to write the national engineering entrance exam.
GATE 2018 score will be valid for three years from the date of announcement of results. GATE score is also applicable for recruitment of engineers at the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
Only candidates who have BE/ BTech/ BPharm or BArch degrees are eligible to registration for GATE 2018. The aspirants who will qualify the exam of GATE 2018 will be eligible to get admission in MTech and ME programmes at any seven campus of IITs located in Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, Mumbai, Chennai & Kharagpur.
Examination for all the papers will be computer-based tests.
GATE 2018 examinations will be conducted in selected cities and towns in India as well as in the following cities abroad: Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal), and Singapore.
Online application starts from September 1, 2017 and the last date for form submission of forms is October 5. The last date to change examination centre is November 17. The admit cards will be available from January 5, 2018. The examination dates are February 3, 4 and 10, 11 (Sat & Sun) and the results will be out by March 17, 2018.
