The University of Sheffield, UK, is inviting applications for MRes Quantum Photonics and Nanomaterials course starting in September 2018. This one-year research degree is taught by the University of Sheffield's quantum photonics and nanomaterials specialists.
It is designed to build on the knowledge students have from their undergraduate degree, and give them advanced knowledge of electromagnetism, semiconductors and solid state physics. Alongside core modules, students have the option to study other areas of physics that interest them such as advanced quantum mechanics, soft condensed matter and biological physics.
Taught material is complemented by a 12-month research project in one of world-leading research groups at the University of Sheffield. The training will cover optical experiments and fabrication of devices in our state-of-the-art laboratories as well as numerical methods and more.
The University has a strong experience in training both home and international postgraduate and undergraduate students from various countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North and Latin America.
Eligibility: A first class undergraduate degree in physics or a related subject. Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.

SRM University, AP Amaravati, invites applications for admission to School of Liberal Arts and Basic Sciences (SLABS) that offers BA, BBA, BCom and BSc programmes across 12 disciplines: Commerce, Economics, English Studies, History, Journalism, Psychology, Business Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.
The courses allow the students to experience diverse disciplines. Students have the option to take up departmental or general electives to carve a unique learning experience as per their interests. Students also have the choice of opting for minors during the three-year course duration to establish expertise in two different fields (majors and minors).
The course also provides a choice to the learners to get a diploma in their chosen field of study by spending one additional year at SLABS.
Selection criteria: Apart from the marks secured in the Board examinations, SRM expert counselors understand the potential of each candidate through a lengthy discussion before rolling out the admission offer.
There are two admission cycles for the applicants:
Cycle 1 (Early entry offer): Application deadline is April 20, 2018. Counseling timeline will be from April 25 to 10 May. Applicable to the students who have secured more than 80 per cent marks in Class X and are currently awaiting the results of Class XIII. Provisional Admission Letter (PAL) will be rolled out to select students, admissions contingent on performance in Class XII examinations. A waitlist will also be announced
Cycle 2: Application deadline is June 15, 2018. The counseling timeline will be from June 16 to 30, 2018. PAL will be rolled out to selected students based on performance in Class XII examinations.
