MoU with IIT, Bombay

The IIT Bombay and Wadhwani Foundation announced the inauguration of Wadhwani Research Centre in biosciences and bioengineering.

Dr Romesh Wadhwani, chairman, Wadhwani foundation & founder, Symphony Technology Group, Kathy Wadhwani and Prof Devang Khakhar, director, IIT Bombay inaugurated the centre by unveiling the ceremonial plaque at IIT Bombay.

Dr Ajay Kela, president and CEO, Wadhwani foundation and alumnus of IIT-Bombay were also present at the function in support of the new sign-up.

Fiitjee conducts seminar

The FIITJEE conducted a seminar on The Science of Success at Siddhartha Academy of General & Technical Education (SAGTE) Siddhartha Nagar, Vijayawada.

The seminar was held in a bid to provide the right path to the students preparing for IIT-JEE and other engineering exams.

The interactive seminar provided valuable insights to students for obtaining the best results in IIT-JEE and other competitive exams like All India Engineering Entrance Exam, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana and various Olympiad exams.

It was attended by more than a 1,000 students. Majority of the participants were those who have been preparing for engineering exams from Class IX.

Engg & mgmt MoUs

The Plastindia Foundation signed MoUs with two US universities; University of Wisconsin and University of Massachusetts.

The foundation under its empowerment committee has decided to set up an integrated campus under the name of Plastindia International University (PIU) which will be affiliated to the Gujarat education board.

It will be PIU’s objective is to provide engineering and management education up to postgraduate level students coupled with industrial research, project management and entrepreneurship, including dual programmes.

Scholarships awarded

The Faculty of Humanities, University of Southampton, UK is offering a number of postgraduate scholarships and studentships funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through their Block Grant Partnership (BGP) scheme; the University of Southampton; the Faculty of Humanities; and their partners.

The faculty has AHRC awards for prospective postgraduate students at Masters and Doctoral level within a few subject areas.

Apeejay invites applications

The Apeejay Stya University, Gurgaon, invites application for MBA course for the academic year 2012-2014. The course will be offered in the School of Management Sciences.

A range of merit scholarships are available on the programme. There is also a provision for need-based financial aid available to deserving students.

Applicants will be selected with a mandatory aggregate of 50 per cent in the undergraduate degree and their CAT/MAT scores.

Workshop on store operations

A Management Development Programme on Excellence in Stores Operations (ESOps) was organised at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini.

The two day workshop is being organised by the Retailers Association of India (RAI) in association with JIMS.

The key speakers the sessions were Rakesh Narula, president T&D, SSIPL Retail Limited; Sathish Bhat, partner BS Nagesh consults and Ashmit Alag, director of Education, Academy of Applied Arts. The workshop provided a learning platform for the retail executives from various Retail organisations as well as for the students of PGDM (Retail Marketing & Management) on various specialized operations of Retail.

Speaking on the occasion Dr JK Goyal, Director, JIMS said: “JIMS is totally committed to the generation of quality education in management. We believe in transforming our students into vibrant, dynamic and multi-faceted personalities. The MDPs or seminars such as the present one provide a platform for the students to acquire first hand knowledge from the leaders of the industry and enhances the knowledge of students.”

Sports day at british school

The British School held an annual sports day for the children from Deepalaya and Annapoorna on Saturday, January 21, 2012.

Organised and coordinated by the students, under the guidance of the CAS (Community, Action and Service) coordinator and the sports teachers, the function was well planned and executed.

There was great enthusiasm by the volunteers as well as the Deepalaya and Annapoorna participants. There were competitive sporting events like high jump, long jump and track races which really boosted  team spirit. And there was also a fun event, the sack race, which was very entertaining for both Deepalaya and The British School students.

The final event was the tug of war which was a wonderful experience. It was a match between The British School and the Deepalaya school.

Though The British School students won the first round, Deepalaya students caught up fast in the second round.

Sports-Based Executive education

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB),  in association with TENVIC, a professional sports consulting company,  is set to organise a two-day sport-based executive education programme for middle and senior managers.

This is the first ever programme that leverages the experiences of sports people to develop a learning platform for corporate executives and help them approach day-to-day situations differently.

The programme titled Learnings from Sport is scheduled to be rolled out on March 16 and 17, 2012 at the IIM Bangalore campus.

This programme will expose participants to concepts like altruistic mentoring, performance-based leadership, managing the ups and downs of the game, cross-training and leadership jugglery.

Oueensland University ties up with MAAC

The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has tied up with Nathmal Ojha Memorial Educational Society (NOMES) in India which in turns facilitates the students of Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) in Kamla Nagar, Lucknow, Gurgaon and Kanpur centres.

The tie-up will facilitate students with semester credits having done the certification from NOMES-MAAC centers.

Students who have completed the career courses  will be able to complete their bachelor degrees in two years and masters degree in one year in creative industries faculty at QUT.

Speaking on the occasion Ben Bawden, international & development manager, Creative Industries Faculty, QUT (Australia)  said: “Indian animation & film industry is booming and the future holds unprecedented growth of the industry. The students here are talented enough to match the growth. To add on the knowledge and exposure, QUT welcomes these students to come and explore.”

Pearl Academy of fashion announces admissions

The Pearl Academy of Fashion announces admission for the year 2012-14 intended for its PG Fashion Business Programmes for aspirants who have appeared for current CAT, MAT and GMAT entrance exams. The institute has announced admissions to four PG fashion business programmes for the academic year 2012.  The courses are:

  • PG Diploma in Fashion Production (Seats in Delhi – 20)
  • PG Diploma in Fashion Merchandising (Seats : Delhi - 30, Chennai - 30)
  • PG Diploma in Fashion Retail (Seats Delhi - 30, Jaipur - 30, Chennai – 30)

The fashion production function for instance directs the manufacture of products for a fashion business. To sustain the sales and distribution plans, this function must interpret the designs and interpret their engineering, and convert the raw materials into goods that meet desired specifications, costings and qualities. In so doing, the function requires to conduct itself economically and efficiently.
