ICSI’s New Syllabus

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) recently launched a new syllabus for its CS Foundation Programme.

The CS Foundation programme consists of four papers — Business Environment and Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Ethics and Communication, Business Economics and Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing.

Under the new syllabus, Optical Marks Recognition-based (OMR) examination would be conducted for Foundation Programme.

Students are eligible to appear in the examination on the basis of self study. The requirement of Coaching Completion Certificate has been discontinued for Foundation Programme students. The examination under the new syllabus will be held from the December 2012 session.

Nesar Ahmad, President, ICSI said that the professionalism and the knowledge base has to happen at the grass root level and the revision of syllabus is the first step towards this direction. He further said that in addition to the awareness of legal aspects the students will be taught various aspects of business environment and entrepreneurship coupled with communication skills.

NK Jain, secretary and CEO, ICSI said that the revision of syllabus is a process in continuum to nurture the students in terms of capacity building, knowledge grinding and skills development. The new syllabus has several new features benchmarking international trends in professional education.

Admission

The programme is of eight months’ duration and can be pursued by a student who has passed 10+2 in Arts, Science or Commerce stream (excluding fine arts).

Cut off dates

Students willing to appear for the December 2012 session should apply by March 31.
