‘Depressed’ Delhi on suicide spree

In a tragic incident, a man committed suicide along with his wife and daughter at his residence in Subhash Nagar area of Rajouri Garden in west Delhi on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Vijay Sharma (60), Neena (53) and Sonia (19). A suicide note has been found near the body which signals that Vijay was under depression as he had taken huge debt and was not able to repay loans. Through the suicide note, he has also obliged to the family for not being able to help them. The incident took place on Wednesday night and the bodies were discovered on Thursday morning, after Vijay’s landlady informed the police.

Additional Commissioner of police, west district, V Renganathan said, a PCR call was received at 8:40 am on Thursday from house no. 7/60, Subhash Nagar, Rajouri Garden. A woman named Mamta complained that the house on the second floor of her building has been locked up from last night and she suspects that something might be wrong, as nobody is opening the door even after knocking repetitively. When police broke open the door, the wife of Vijay Sharma, Neena, was found dead in one room, in another room, Vijay and his daughter Sonia were found dead. Vijay was found hanging through a ceiling fan, whereas, Sonia and Neena had their wrists slit.

A suicide note was found near the body which read, “I could not do anything for you all, please pardon me, I am your guilty”. Vijay’s landlady Mamta, whom he considered a sister, informed that somebody had knocked on Vijay’s door in the morning, but nobody answered. This worried her and he called up the police.

Vijay Sharma was a businessman, who ran a car accessories business in Gurgaon. He had taken a large amount of loan from his suppliers. He was not able to repay his entire loan and was under depression due to this. He had taken approximately `10-15 lakh. His elder son Sandeep, who works with DMRC, was staying away from his parents since the last one-and-a-half year. He had shifted to Shyam Nagar after his marriage. Neighbours informed that Sandeep was not in good terms with his father. They often quarreled with each other, the official added.

Residents of Subhash Nagar informed that they saw the family members in the locality till Wednesday evening. They came to know of the incidence on Thursday afternoon only. He had been living in the rented accommodation in Subhash Nagar since the last six years.
