Stationery items meant for forging letters were also recovered and police is investigating the same.
Additional Commissioner of Police of West district, V Renganathan said, “The accused used to deal in the driving licence of different transport authorities of India and were operating their illegal business from Punjabi Bagh area.” A trap was laid to nab the accused and was arrested red-handed when a customer purportedly sent by the police approached them for a driving licence and they took only a photograph of him and within few minutes they came back with forged driving licence of Karnal District Transport Authority of Haryana.
The money that they took from the customer was also recovered from their possession.
The accused were taken into custody and put to sustained interrogation. The accused confessed that they were operating this racket for the last seven years in the different areas of India and have supplied more than 1,000 such driving licences. Mostly the drivers of heavy vehicle were their customers and they used to provide them the forged licence at minimum cost. They also revealed that they have been operating it in Delhi from last one year at TPT centre, Punjabi Bagh & Sanjay Gandhi Transport Centre.
Police have recovered two forged HMV driving licence of Karnal Transport Authority, more than 50 blank forged driving licence cards, forged stamps of different Transport Authorities of India and different stationery which is being used to make fake licences.
A case has been registered in Punjabi Bagh police station under Sections of 420, 468, 471 and 34 of IPC. Further raids are being conducted to apprehend other gang members.
