The initiative is being taken to decongest the roads of the corporate hub crisscrossed by over lakhs of vehicles everyday.
The Gurgaon traffic police will send a proposal to the Haryana Urban Development Authority in this connection and a private company is yet to be selected for giving the charge of installing and monitoring these traffic signals.
“These ‘intelligent’ signals will be monitored with an automatic device attached with a sensor which communicates with other signals to ensure the smoothest possible flow of traffic within the zones.
The traffic lights attached with these selected signals will be functioned automatically and a centralised room will be made for monitoring the traffic in these selected areas of the city. If it leds to any problem it will be handled and worked from the centralised room,” DCP Traffic Gurgaon Bharti Arora said.
The 20 key zones identified by the city traffic police include Shankar Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, South City Chowk, Rajeev Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Rampura Chowk, IMT Manesar Chowk, Pachgaon, Bilaspur Chowk, Z-Chowk, ARDEE City Chowk, Genpact Chowk, Sector-42/27 Chowk, Bristal Chowk, Sethi Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, MDI Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, Patudi Chowk and Sector-4/7 Chowk.
“The traffic personnel noticed that the selected points witness massive traffic jams and many violate traffic rules at these points which lead to the jams. The centralised room attached to the screen will monitor the points and a heavy challan will be issued to offenders,” said a senior traffic police officer.
