L-G meets National bravery award winners

Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna on Friday met the children who have been conferred the ‘National Bravery Award 2011’ at a function held at Raj Niwas. Twenty-four children, 16 boys and eight girls have been selected for the awards, five of them have been given the award posthumously.

Congratulating these brave children for their courageous acts, the L-G said that this is a achievement as they have not only saved the precious live of others by showing exemplary courage and strength, but also performed their duty towards humanity. He also paid his tribute to the parents of the children who laid down their lives for saving others. The most-coveted Bharat Award has been conferred posthumously on 15-year-old late Master Kapil Negi of Uttrakhand who helped his classmates cross an over-flooded stream.

Govt to recruit 200 Urdu teachers

Keeping in view the vacant posts of Urdu language teachers in Government-run schools across the city, the Delhi Government has decided to recruit 200 teachers. The advertisement regarding the recruitment would be started within a week’s time.

This was disclosed by Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely after holding a weekly review meeting of the Education department. Lovely also expressed his displeasure about the vacant posts of Urdu teachers and instructions were issued to the officers concerned of the Education department to start the recruitment process at the earliest. He said that one Urdu language teacher would be appointed in each Government school where Urdu language students are enrolled.

 

‘Cong will emerge victorious in MCD polls’

The Delhi Congress president and MP Jai Prakash Agarwal said the Congress will emerge victorious in all the three Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections. He said that the people were fed up with the corrupt rule of the BJP in the MCD, and wanted relief from their misrule, and were looking at the Congress Party to provide a stable and corruption-free rule in the MCD. Agarwal said this while addressing a public meeting after a padyatra at the Bhatti Mines area in Mehrauli. The padyatra and the meeting were organised by Rajinder Singh Tanwar. Prominent others present were Maniram, Balkishan, Jhanghi Ram, Kashmir Singh, Hira Lal and Sarsuddin.

Six bonded child labourers rescued

Six bonded child labourers were recovered from a construction site of Soochna Bhawan, office of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday. Acting on a complaint filed by Bachpan Bachao Andolan, the police raided a construction site in the premises of Soochna Bhawan in CGO Complex and rescued six bonded child labourers on Friday.

The rescue operation was led by Pravesh Ranjan Jha, SDM, New Friends Colony, South District. Most of the rescued labourers belong to Bihar and UP and are between 13-17 years of age. They said that they were working for Era Infra Engineering Limited for more than 12 hours a day and were getting Rs130 to Rs160 as daily wages (which is much below the prescribed minimum wages of Delhi). The labourers were engaged in iron-rod cutting, electrical repair and plumber work, according to a Press release.

Kiran Walia flags off ‘save the girl child’ rally

The Delhi Government on Friday started celebrating ‘Save the girl child’ week by organising a grand rally in Malviya Nagar area, South Delhi, creating awareness among the people for saving the girl child. Social Welfare Minister Prof Kiran Walia flagged off the rally ‘Save the girl child’ which was attended by more than 1,600 representatives of NGOs, RWAs women groups, anganwadi workers and a large number of children apart from the officers of department of Women and Child Development. The participants were seen enthusiastically holding placards, banners and hand bills in their hands.

Workshop on Effective Parenting organised

The Prabhaav Foundation on Friday organised a workshop on ‘Effective Parenting’ focusing on teaching parents their understanding for their kids. More than 35 parents participated in the workshop that was organised at the Green Park area. On the occasion, Director of Prabhaav Foundation Vandana Lakhanpal said, “Through this workshop, the parents will come to know and understand their children better and work accordingly.

Effective parenting is a must and cannot be ignored because children are the future of the country.” A Press release issued by Prabhhav Foundation said, “‘Effective parenting’ is from a series of workshops titled ‘Abhivakti-Expressions and Impressions’, organised by Prabhaav Foundation on effective parenting.
