Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray today said the Mumbai civic poll results have shown that the city cannot be separated from Maharashtra.

"The results in Mumbai and Thane (won by Sena-BJP combine) show that Mumbai cannot be separated from Maharashtra," he said in a statement published in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

"I don't have words to thank the voters. There were attempts to encircle us, both from those from our home and outside," he said in an apparent reference to his estranged nephew Raj Thackeray and political opponents.

The Sena chief also lambasted a "section of media", who he said, were maligning the party's image through defamatory articles at the behest of some leaders.

In an editorial in a Marathi newspaper, Thackeray also targeted Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan over his comments that Shiv Sena would be rendered "inconsequential" after the polls.

"Where is Chavan now? Now, he is hiding his face...Nobody was successful in removing the 'saffron flag' from Mumbai and Thane corporations," he said.

Overcoming anti-incumbency factor and stiff challenge from Raj Thackeray-led MNS, the saffron combine has retained power in the prestigious Mumbai civic body and neighbouring Thane Municipal Corporation polls.

what bal ji has stated is absolute correct, no one can separate mumbai from maharastra, first other states try to emulate mumbai in their own states there by making mumbai free from unwanted unemployed influx

Dear Sir, The sena chief deserves this time to take a shot at his critics. He has done it again and again so many times like Sachin Tendulkar that no body questions his ability. Now the question is how Mumbai is going to be transformed? How the people's problems are going to be addressed? what happens after he departs one day?( it is not his job?) No it is his job to unify all the nationalist forces to rulle Maharashtra. Mumbai can never be separated from Maharshtra and so is Maharashtra that includes Mumbai from Mahan Bharat. Since Mumbai is the business capital of India, all citizens have a right there in Mumbai is some one hires them or they are posted as Indians working for million companies and the govt of India. Stop discrimination against non Marathi people on some grounds. checking the inflow of people from other states is a state problem.
