Back Nation Health Ministry to move SC on CET

Health Ministry to move SC on CET

The Medical Council of India (MCI) and the CBSE may be gearing up to hold the Common Entrance Test (CET) for MBBS aspirants from May 2012, but the Health Ministry has some different plans. It is all set to approach the Supreme Court seeking permission to defer CET by an year, to the 2013-14 academic session.

Sources told The Pioneer that the Ministry will soon submit an affidavit to seek postponement of the CET, which is also known as National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), citing objections from States like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra — where majority of medical colleges exist.

“These States have been pointing out their difficulty in holding the examination next year stating that students will face problem. They feel that the MCI should go slow on administering CET to avoid inconvenience to the students,” senior officials from the Health Ministry confirmed.

They are not against the CET per se. But they want that the test be conducted from academic session 2013-2014 after framing a common curriculum for physics, biology and chemistry for standards XI and XII, the officials noted.

In case the Supreme Court considers the Ministry’s request, this will be the second time that the CET will be deferred.

The MCI, following the apex court order, has been preparing for the CET since 2011. But it was postponed to 2012 as the Council wanted to give enough time to the students to prepare for the exam.

But while the MCI has been keen to introduce the new system claiming that it would cut down multiplicity of examination, the Health Ministry has been dilly-dallying the matter citing various reasons, opposition from the States being the major one.

The Ministry’s disinterest in CET is no secret. It is yet to notify the revised syllabus and the examination system prepared by MCI for medical under graduates. Irked at the delay, the CBSE too had recently shot off a letter to the Ministry to notify the examination system so that it could smoothly ensure all logistics in place for the D-day.

Over eight lakh students take the MBBS examinations for over 330 medical colleges across the country.

Would Hon.Supreme court step in to do justice to hard working students of this country. Health ministry has vested interest and they are busy bargaining with Private college owners. When the kick back auction reach its final stage, they will tell the court that time is not enough to conduct the NEET this year.Karnataka had told the same reason last year as well and they are repeating the same this year as well. Hon court , please make sure things committed in front of you are honoured.Students are upset and unable to do due preparation. If AIMPMT pre exam is conducted in april, no 12th class student will get qualified as they have no time to prepare for entrance test. Supreme court only can break the nexus of this mafia ,Gods sake.

it is not the question of who controls who and what.
It may be the issue of syllabus. Many schools in different States follow state syllabus and not CBSE syllabus. Not all these may not be same as CBSE . Hence the students who do not follow CBSE syllabus may have problem with a common exam.

Once the syllabus is uniform in Standard 11 & 12, there shall not be any objections

Good to see some central govt body thinking about unorganized state board students caught off-guard to catch with CBSE students having parents with more say in central govt. bodies. Single exam is welcome if sufficient time is given to state boards to change the syllabus to make it same to that of CBSE so as to make it fair to state board students.

I support that private medical colleges/institutes cannot run without generating their resources of income thru sale of prospectus, entrance exam fee, course fee etc. The question is why the govt is not thinking of infusing govt money in form of a grant to all medical institutes/colleges for lowering their fees! Govt should invariably compensate medical institutes/colleges/students so that talented students are not deprived of medical education just for want of money. Many of the students who qualify for a medical test thru a private medical entrance exam do not take admission due to lack of finance. Let's not to allow the talents to go in waste.

Leaders are aware of this fact that if CET medical is launched then one of their major source of income in the form of capitation fee from student will be curtailed. They will notify CET, I doubt ! Launching CET is like asking a thief to become a judge and prescribe a sentence to himself.
Indian leadership(irre spective of political parties) is utmost failure and corrupt. They are frogs put is basket. There is the need of a complete revolution that could revive politics to the level of honesty.

The central govt will not notify the NEET because they are with the managements. They are not concerned about the fate and difficulties of poor students. Some of the central ministers and power full political leaders are owners of self financing medical colleges. They are deciding the policies of the govt. Then how can we expect justice and pro student justice from them?
Dear students you get ready for multiple entrance tests conducted at different places.
Dear parents get ready to spend thousands of rupees for prospectus, journey and lodging expenses. You have to take leave for days to accompany your wards to the examination centres.
Our only expectation is with MCI and Hon. Supreme Court.

Govt. is concerned more with their political interest than the quality of medical education. It will never favour from 2012. MCI & CBSE are unnecessarily. struggling. Only SC can help MCI&CBSE.
