The eight-hour-long meeting was held in the absence of Hazare and some other prominent members like former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice
(retired) Santosh Hegde and activist Medha Patkar. Hazare is recuperating in his village Ralegan Siddhi after being discharged from a hospital in Pune recently.
In view of the drift which the agitation has witnessed of late, several suggestions were made. “Most of the members suggested we should review our political stand and not campaign against any particular political party. They were against a repeat of the Hisar by-election wherein we had opposed the Congress candidate.
We have decided to leave it to Anna to take a final decision,” a core committee member said.
Activist Arvind Kejriwal, senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan and poet-lecturer Kumar Vishwas will leave for Ralegan Siddhi on Tuesday morning to brief Hazare about the deliberations at the meeting. Subsequently, Hazare and team would brief the mediapersons at Ralegan Siddhi, the sources said.
Among the important suggestions for IAC, there was one for creating a vote bank of its own and using it during the 2014 General Elections. Another one favoured formation of a political party. An IAC member claimed receipt of “thousands of e-mails and SMSes” from across India suggesting the way the agitation should be navigated from here.
