FIR lodged, Rajasthan Minister may resign

Rajasthan Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderna is in deep trouble and may quit the Cabinet following inclusion of his name in the FIR lodged on Saturday at Bilara in Jodhpur over the abduction case of Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM) Bhanwari Devi, who had gone missing since September1.

On the ruling of a local court at Bilara, where a petition was filed by Amarchand, husband of the missing nurse, seeking inclusion of the name of Maderna in his original FIR, local police on Saturday formerly registered a case of rape and abduction of Bhanwari Devi against Maderna.

Earlier police had registered cases against four persons and of them, one Sohanlal Bishnoi was arrested, while three others are absconding. Maderna, however, was not available for comment. His family members had also left his official residence in the State capital four days ago.

Four the past two weeks, Maderna was under pressure from the Congress party leadership to resign to save the Government from facing an embarrassing situation, but he was not willing to quit. But after he was named in the FIR, it is likely that he may submit his resignation, according to party sources.

Amarchand in his fresh complaint said that soon after his wife disappeared, he lodged the FIR with the Bilara police station, in which he named Maderna and four others for kidnapping of his wife and her possible killing. But police refused to include the name of the Minister in the complaint.

According to Amarchand, soon after helping his wife in getting a transfer to her native village Borunda, Maderna used to call Bhanwari Devi. He had established physical relations with her.
