Has it ever happened that you have woken up in the morning with an earache and all you want is a quick fix? Here are a few home remedies that one can follow to get rid of that pain, says ROSHANI DEVI

Earache like a toothache can be very painful and all that one wants is a solution that will relieve the ache. There are some things that one can do or follow to bring you respite from the pain.

Like people use a cold compress to relieve pain in other parts of the body like the knee, one can use the same technique for the ear.

Use an ice pack or warm compress over the ear and alternate between warm and cold after 10 minutes.

While doctors will say that there is no proof that olive oil is good for an earache, folklore has it that it works wonders. My mother used to put coconut oil when we were small and had an earache. One can use castor or even lavender oil. But today, one can use olive oil. Put a few drops of lukewarm olive oil in the ear. But it is advisable to consult an ENT specialist before you do this.

Most homes have ginger in their vegetable basket.     Grate fresh ginger root (1 teaspoon) and add it to two tablespoon olive oil. Let the ginger sit in the oil for about 10 minutes. With the help of a dropper put two drops of this into the ear canal. Do this twice daily.

One can even use garlic. Crush 5 garlic cloves and heat it with half cup olive oil and 20  drops eucalyptus oil. Do this twice daily.
