Amit wins silver in Para Athletics C’ship

London: India's Amit Kumar Saroha clinched a silver in men's club throw F51 competition in World Para Athletics Championships here on Monday. Saroha's best throw of 30.25m, which came in his third attempt, fetched him a silver medal. In the process, the para-athlete from Haryana set a new Asian record in this event. Serbia's Zeljko Dimitrijevic retained his title with a world record throw of 31.99m. Another Indian, Dharambir finished 10th with his best throw of 22.34m.

 

IPL media rights up for grabs

New Delhi: The BCCI will release the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the IPL media rights on July 21 while the last date for bid submission will be August 28. The media rights on offer will be for a five-year period, like it was the case with the title and event rights that went to Vivo and IMF respectively for a handsome amount. "The IPL Governing Council at its meeting held on July 11, 2017 evaluated the IPL Media Rights ITT and reconfirmed that the existing BCCI tender process is the best approach, both in terms of absolute transparency and a free and fair price discovery, for the IPL Media Rights," said BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary in a statement.

 

Bhupathi joins hands with Dunamis

New Delhi: Ace tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi has joined hands with premier sports and entertainment Management Company, Dunamis Sportainment. Dunamis also have contracts with Virender Sehwag and Abhinav Bindra and now they will take care of Bhupathi's entire range of endorsements and public appearances for the next one year, to start with. "I am excited to sign up with Dunamis. Unlike others, they have a strategy and plan to build on an already strong network which should help athletes monetize in different ways," said Bhupathi, the twelve-time Grand Slam winner. "Mahesh is the one of the best tennis players India has ever produced. He is a great icon and a role model for the youth of the country," CEO of Dunamis, Abhishek Misra said.

 

Bidhuri qualifies for World C'ship

New Delhi: Gaurav Bidhuri on Monday became the eighth Indian boxer to qualify for this year's World Championships in Hamburg, Germany after getting a quota place from the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC). Bidhuri, who lost in the box-offs for quota places during the Asian Championships in Tashkent, got lucky after Bhutan declined a slot offered to them by the (ASBC). "As Bhutan declined the quota in 56Kg, the next best ranked boxer in this category is Gaurav Bidhuri," the ASBC wrote in a mail to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), requesting the body to confirm the slot with the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
