Postponed PKL games in Ranchi, Pune leg

Mumbai: Organisers of VIVO Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 5 have announced new dates for the matches that were postponed on August 29 following torrential rains in the city. The two matches between Bengaluru Bulls and U P Yoddha (Match 51) and U Mumba and Gujarat FortuneGiants (Match 52) will now be played during the Ranchi and Pune leg of the tournament respectively, a media release said on Wednesday. The match between U Mumba and Gujarat FortuneGiants will now be held  on September 20 at the Harivansh Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Ranchi.

Thalaivas beat Yoddha 34-33 in PKL

Sonepat: Ajay Thakur scored five points in the last minute to lead Tamil Thalaivas to a narrow 34-33 victory over UP Yoddha in a thrilling Pro Kabaddi League match here on Wednesday. It was Thalaivas' second victory of the season and UP Yoddha were left to rue their errors. Thalaivas were second best for most of the match but came up the goods at critical moments of the match. Nitin Tomar scored 14 points for UP Yoddha but his effort went in vain. Despite the win, Tamil Thalaivas remain rooted at the bottom of Zone B table with 21 points from 10 games. UP Yoddha are second with 37 points from 14 games.

Nehru, Hussain Colleges scrape through

New Delhi: Motilal Nehru College and Zakir Hussain College posted thrilling victories in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament here on Wednesday. Nehru College found redemption against Atma Ram Sanathan Dharma College in the last minute as they won 3-2; Zakir Hussain, on the other hand, were locked 2-2 with Shri Ram College of Commerce after full time and scraped through in the ensuing penalties 4-3. Atma Ram College will rue the missed opportunities as they first took the lead and later equalised also but a late goal undid all their work. Shri Ram College jumped into a string 2-0 lead by the 15th minute itself, with Shubham Thakur slamming in both of them. The second half, however presented a different story, with Pawan Pratap Singh first scoring in the 34th minute. Vanlal Zahawma tied the match in the 50th minute. In the penalty shootout, Shri Ram missed their very first shot while Zakir Hussain found the goal with all their 4 shots.

Coaches, Star Players feature in  ilgw

New Delhi: For the first time in the history of Indian Golf, as many as five industry bodies, star Asian Tour professionals like Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rahil Gangjee together with 28 golf clubs across 16 Indian cities, have come together to lend their support to a unique initiative to grow the sport in the country. The India Learn Golf Week (ILGW), a weeklong programme scheduled between September 25 - October 1, 2017, will be an initiative of various golfing bodies in the country as well as the globally acclaimed Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America. The ILGW will aim to initiate 20,000 new golfers to the game, making it the largest such initiative to infuse new talent into the sport at one go.

Registrations open for Delhi Half Marathon

New Delhi: Registration for the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon, to be held on November 19, was declared open here on Wednesday. With a total prize money of $275,000, this year's edition is expected to witness over 34,000 participants, pound the wide long stretches of the capital on the third Sunday of November. The registrations for the half marathon can be done till October 3, the organisers said at a press conference at a city hotel.
