‘This is best KXIP side till date’

| | New Delhi

On the back of spending heavily during the players' auction to attain the proper balance, Indian Premier League side Kings XI Punjab is hoping to change the team's fortune and in the process win their maiden title in the 11th edition of IPL.

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta owned Kings XI Punjab's last remarkable performance came in the 2014 edition when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.

But ahead of the new season, the franchise has heavily invested on key Indian players, which the KXIP's head of cricket operation and strategy Virender Sehwag believes will be the key factor.

"We have added four to five extremely talented Indian players into our side who have become regulars for the national side and are even featuring in multiple formats. I think that their presence will be a major boost for us ahead of this season," he said.

"I think this is the best Kings XI side so far and we're looking for a remarkable performance in the IPL and possibly win the title."

The team features some of the big names from world cricket like Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, Yuvraj Singh, David Miller and Marcus Stoinis who can turn the game in their side's favour at any point of the match. However, former Indian opener Sehwag believes that it's the bowlers who will have a bigger role to play in the team's victory than the batsmen in T20s.

"Eventually in the dying minutes of the match when the required rate gets high and the pressure situation arises, it's the bowler that can change the match situation by giving the breakthroughs and can turn it to your side," he explained.

Ace Indian spinner and Kings XI Punjab's captain Ravichandran Ashwin, who was a key part of MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL for eight seasons, said that he will try to incorporate what he has learnt from the captains he has played under to help his team succeed this time around.

The 31-year-old off spinner also said that the team is capable of winning the tournament with the players they have in the squad which has a proper blend of Indian and foreign players.

Moreover, Ashwin has dismissed the questions of using the IPL performance as a chance to make a comeback in the limited overs side for India. "My entire focus will be on doing well for the team and discharge my responsibilities well and I'm not looking it as a chance to get into the national team," he said.

Both Ashwin and Sehwag were believes that their side will be playing to entertain all their fans.
