Bangladesh reaches for Asian Athletic meet

Bhubaneswar: A 21-member Bangladesh athletic team reached here on Monday, ahead of 22nd Asian Athletics Championship schedule to be held at Kalinga Stadium here from July 6 to 9. 18 athletes, three coaches and an official of Baagladesh is the first overseas team to reach the venue well before the meet. They will have three-week training facilities before the meet. The Sri Lankan team has been expected to reach her on July 20 to give exposer to their players to the new venue and also acclimatise with the condition. Sri Lankan contingent is tipped to feature 15 male and 7 female athletes. These are 16 individual athletes and two relay teams. In the mega event more than 800 athletes and 400 officials from 45 countries would show their excellence in 42 events (21 for men and 21 for women). The newly relaid eight lane synthetic track in the main stadium as well the practice track is all set to host the international meet. The floodlight installation was completed.

Gangpur register back to back wins in National Hockey

Bhubaneswar: Hockey Gangpur Odisha defeated Hockey Bhopal by 4-1 goals in the 7th Hockey India Senior Men National Hockey Championship 2017 ‘A’ Division at Lucknow in Utter Pradesh on Monday. Aijub Ekka, Alsem Lakra and Ananda Lakra of Gangpur scored a goal each in the 22nd, 42nd and 43rd minutes respectively in the first half. Yousuf Imran of the Bhopal scored a goal in the 34th minute and the score board read as 3-1 in the first half. After the change of sides, Salman Lakra of the Gangpur nailed the final goal in the 57th minute. In the next league round match on Tuesday, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha will meet  Comp. and Auditor General of India.
