Baby dies in womb, kin allege docs’ negligence

Family members and locals of a woman who was admitted to the Sadar Hospital Bokaro for delivery, staged a demonstration inside the hospital premises on Sunday after the doctors announced that the baby had died in the womb.

The family members of a pregnant woman, identified as Chhaya Devi (25), alleged that the baby in her womb died due to medical negligence of doctors at the hospital.

Irked over the incident, furious people made hue and cry. Later with the intervention of  SP Bokaro, SDO Chas and Civil Surgeon Bokaro crowd at the hospital was cleared. The Bokaro Civil Surgeon S Murmu assured for investigation. “We have received a complaint in connection with an incident of medical negligence in which a unborn baby died in mother’s womb. It was a very serious allegation and a thorough probe would be conducted,” he added.

 Chhaya, wife of Manoj Pal from Barudih village, had rushed to Jaridih Referral Hospital at 9 am on Saturday for her check-up but doctor rushed  reached the hospital only at 12 noon. Since there were some complications in foetus movement, the doctor at the hospital asked the patient to come to her nursing home based at Balidih for scanning. The scanning was done and the report was provided around 4.30 pm.

As per the scanning report, the health of the baby was fine but unborn baby found tilted backward, so doctor referred him to Sadar Hospital Bokaro.  Chhaya was rushed to Bokaro and admitted at the hospital at 5.30 PM. Later during delivery at Sadar Hospital doctors found the baby dead.

 Family members  demanded strong action against the accused who were responsible for the incident.
