Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said that he would move to higher court within a week challenging a Delhi court’s decision to dismiss his plea to make Union Home Minister P Chidambaram as a co-accused in the 2G scam.

While talking to mediapersons, Swamy said that in his 70-para verdict delivered early this month, the trial court judge had agreed with him in 65 paras.

However, his appeal was dismissed as the trial court felt that he was unable to prove criminality on the part of Chidambaram, the then Finance Minister, Swamy said.

He maintained that he can prove this criminality only when Chidambaran is forced to undergo a cross-examination.

Meanwhile, attacking the Nehru-Gandhi family, Swamy said that the time had come to free the Congress from the clutches of the family.

He said that the Nehru-Gandhi family has produced only one good leader and he was Rajiv Gandhi. He said he did not recognise Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul as they are political leaders in their own right.

To a query, he said that he would like to welcome social activist Anna Hazare to work with him sans his team members. “I would like to work with Hazare but can not think of working with Team Anna members,” Swamy said.

Observing that he was an old member of the erstwhile Jan Sangh, which believed that Hindutva also encompasses Muslims and Christians since they have had Hindu roots, Swamy quipped that it was up to BJP to decide whether to take him in the party. “I know that I am not an easy person to be tolerated by any political party,” he said.

Responding to a query on the recent arrest of two Italian marines for allegedly killing two Indian fishermen in Kerala, the 73-year-old leader said, “The arrested duo is spending time in a guest house and not in jail as they should have been.”
