Guru Padmasambhava: A Metallic Sculpture

Under the popular museum series ‘Exhibit of the Month’ of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, a traditional object is displayed for display for a whole month. The exhibit for the month of September, 2017 is ‘Guru Padmasambhava: A Metallic Sculpture’.

The Director, IGRMS, Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri inaugurated Exhibit of the month at Veethi Sankul indoor exhibition building. This exhibit has been combination by Garima Anand (Museum Associate).

This object is a metallic sculpture of Guru Padmsambhava (Lotus Born) also known as Guru Rinpoche of 8th century Indian Buddhist Master, who is widely venerated as a 'Second Buddha' across Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan and the Himalayan states of India. Although there was a historical Padmsambhava, but not so much is known of him apart from helping the construction of the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet at samye at the behest of Trisong Detsen. Padmsambhava is also regarded as founder of iantric tradition in Buddhism.

Army officials visit

Under the leadership of AK Asthana (Director, ICM, Bhopal) and Amit Mudgal (Faculty Member) 44 JCOs and soldiers from Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force undergoing training at Institute of Cooperative Management, Bhopal visited IGRMS for a special guided tour.

 Hindi Fortnight

The Sangrahalaya commenced Official Language Hindi Fortnight 2017 to be observed from 1st to 15th September, 2017. Under the activities of Hindi Fortnight an essay debating competition on topic “Is Primary Education Compulsory: Must Be In Mother Tongue Only” was organised. Around 15 officials of IGRMS, Bhopal participated in this competition. This competition was coordinated by Shr. Arun Kiro, (Assistant Curator) and Judge RM Nayal, (Assistant Keeper).
