Health workers’ strike hits polio drive

| | Gwalior | in Bhopal

Demanding their regularization and higher pay scale, the contractual health workers are on a strike for the last 20 days. The strike had a significant impact on the National Pulse Polio Campaign that got kicked off on Sunday.

With the contractual health workers including ASHA workers on strike the campaign was allegedly carried out by untrained staff. With the Anganwadi workers too deciding to boycott the pulse polio drive nursing students were pressed into duty in many booths in and around the city.

In some booths, volunteers and persons with little health training were seen administrating polio drops to babies.

There are reports of the strikers threatening and intimidating those who participated in the campaign and in some places the vaccines were stopped from reaching the booths.
