While 10-year-old Pravakar is still in critical condition, battling for life in the orthopedic ward of the SCB Medical College hospital, sympathies and good wishes are pouring in from all corners for the physically-challenged boy who lost his right hand and right leg in a train mishap last week. The boy had earlier lost his left hand in a fire mishap when he was only two years old.

Social organisations, industrial houses and philanthropic bodies have all come forward to help the brave boy who was earlier eking out a living by begging in trains to support his family of old mother and a younger brother.

The doctors of the hospital where he was brought on Thursday night had to amputate his right hand and right leg after gangrene had set in. The boy was allegedly pushed from a running train by a cucumber vendor near Gorakhnath station in Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday afternoon in which he had severely injured his limbs.

It was, however, when the Odisha High Court took cognizance of the matter that the State Government has stepped in to help the unfortunate boy whose father is not staying in the family. Following directions from the HC, Cuttack Collector Girish SN visited the boy in the hospital on Saturday and promised that all the treatment cost of the boy would be borne by the State Government while efforts would be made to send the boy to school while his old mother would be provided suitable job.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities too have made all arrangements to provide the best treatment to the boy and he would be provided with artificial limbs at Government cost. Reports also indicate that the State Government too had given some financial assistance to the mother of the boy.

On the other hand, Jagatsinghpur SP and Railway SP too have begun investigations after drawing plain paper FIR into the alleged report that the boy was pushed from Paradeep-Palasa DMU as soon as he boarded the train at Garakhnath station. The Odisha  High Court has sought a report from the police and both the SPs have been instructed to submit the investigation status report by February 13.
