Arrest Works Secy for flyover mishap: Citizens’ body

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

The Rajya Nagarika Samaj has demanded the arrest of the Works Secretary and top engineers of the department for the Bomikhal flyover collapse on Sunday.

In a Press release, it said though the time period meant to complete the flyover had expired long back, yet the construction was going on due to a nexus between the contractor firm Panda Infrastructure and top level officials in the Works Department for their greed to earn fast buck.

Though the locals had protested the long delays in the construction of the bridge, besides sub standard work and held dharna and Rasta Roko, yet the administration had ignored it all due to political pressure.

The Works department was silent since the money of three ruling party MLAs was invested in the bridge work, it alleged.

It also further said that Panda Infrastructure was awarded the job despite its dubious records and the firm not having any expertise. Targeting the Works Secretary Nalini Kanta Pradhan, the Samaj demanded to know why he showed undue favouritism to the contract firm.

It also demanded a probe into as many as 11 bridge collapse incidents across the State in recent years and the link of the contract firms with the Works Secretary. Besides, it demanded that the ex-gratia sum be hiked from `5 lakh to `20 lakh for the kin of the deceased in the Bomikhal mishap.
