Construction workers’ stir before Assembly on Sep 15

The Nirman Sramik Union Samannway Committee, Odisha would hold a mass protest in front of the State Assembly on September 15 pressing for their demands.

The committee alleged that due to the new orders coming from the Labour Commission, the registered construction workers are deprived of the facilities of the State Government.

They also alleged that till now not a single worker has been benefitted by medical assistance and without creating proper infrastructure, the commission is creating new order for which the workers are forced to run to the labour office many times.

Their demands include abolition of VAT bill system, implementation of the Odisha Labour Welfare Board directives to provide Rs 3,000 pension, immediate registration of workers pending in the different labour offices till July 30, 2017, assistance as per rules to the construction workers and no unnecessary expenses of funds of the Odisha Labour Welfare Board, etc.

They also demanded to provide medical assistance to the workers of Khordha district as it given in the other districts of the State.

The committee would also submit a memorandum to the Labour Minister on the occasion.The committee threatened that if the demands are not fulfiled by October 10, they will hold dharna in front of all district labour offices and Labour Commission office for an indefinite period.
