| | BRAHMAPUR | in Bhubaneswar

An elderly man survived a frightening fall into a deep well after two hours here on Sunday morning.

Biswanath Panda (about 70), as some called him, was rescued by Fire Services personnel following an operation that lasted for one hour. He was admitted to the City Hospital here for treatment.

Panda slipped into the 25-feet-deep well filled in 10-feet water at around 5 am at Lochapada. Locals spotted him in the well and tried to rescue him with the help of a rope. As they failed in the attempt, they informed Fire Services personnel, who rushed to the spot. Panda was found completely naked and his mouth was tied up with a blue handkerchief in the well.

However, reports said that the true identity of the person was yet to be ascertained.

“We suspected that somebody had thrown him into the well tying his mouth with the handkerchief.

However, there was no confirmation about it. Even, the locals did not know about his identity,” a Fire Services official said.

Some injury marks were found on the man’s body after he was rescued. The man may tell about his identity after treatment, he added.
