Ragging: Ex-Min’s son, friend held

Two engineering students were arrested and forwarded to court on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in ragging in their college premises at Khordha.

One of the arrested, Soven Singhbhoi, was identified as the son of former Titilagarh Congress MLA and former Minister Surendra Singhbhoi. Later, police arrested Soven’s friend Banasankar Das, who was also allegedly involved in the incident.

The duo had allegedly ragged and injured a first year student after which a complaint was lodged against them.

“A case was registered following the incident. We have arrested two students and they are being interrogated. Strict action will be taken against those responsible,” said city DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.

Notably, the juniors had gheraoed the district Collector’s office on Monday demanding stringent action against the senior students.

They had alleged that the seniors have been severely torturing and threatening them. They further accused the college authorities of ignoring their complaints.
