Two youths hurl bombs at Cuttack bus-stand

| | CUTTACK | in Bhubaneswar

While people of Cuttack city here are panicky over deteriorating law and order situation, the crime syndicates throw open challenges to elite cops of the city day in and day out. The city witnessed a sixth bombing incident during the past two months when two youths stealthily escaped by a bike after hurling bombs near a cinema house here at the busy Badambadi bus terminus on Tuesday afternoon.

“In fact, all the bombing incidents during the past two months have occurred in the vicinity of the bus-stand risking the life and property of the passengers as well as of the employees of the government bus stand,” said a woman employee of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) attributing the recent spurt in crime to local goons, who are in a false impression that the bus stand is their fiefdom.

When contacted, the local police in their usual style said they have registered a case and investigations are on to nab the culprits. In fact, police have not been able to apprehend anyone so far in any of the bombing incidents at Badambadi.  Sources said since hawking practice at the bus-stand was stopped in April this year, criminal activities like theft, snatching of valuables and other petty offenses have increased here. “In fact, the problem began few years ago when the OSRTC decided to collect the parking fees on its own instead of outsourcing it,” the sources added.
