Six police stations to come up at Jhajjar

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has given his approval for the creation of six new police stations in Jhajjar district for further strengthening law and order situation and effectively deal with crime in the district. Spokesperson said that initially, these new police stations — at Machhroli, City Jhajjar, Asauda, Dujana, Sector-6 Bahadurgarh and Badli — have been sanctioned for a period of five years during which the staff would be provided from existing strength of district police.

Punjab VB nabs revenue patwari in bribery case

Chandigarh: Punjab State Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday nabbed revenue patwari red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 8,000. Spokesperson said Ramesh Kumar, Patwari posted at Halqa Dheerpur in Fatehgarh Sahib district, was nabbed red handed by Vigilance team for accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 from complainant Sarbjit Singh of Maangarh village, Tehsil Amloh in Fatehgarh Sahib district. The complainant has alleged that the accused Patwari was demanding Rs 8,000 for mutation of his land. A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Patiala and further investigations was under progress.

HC condoles demise of Justice Mela Ram Sharma

Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday convened a Full Court Reference to condole the sad demise of Justice Mela Ram Sharma, former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. All the judges of the High Court took part in the full court reference. Sharing grief with the family of late Justice Sharma, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar said that he was man of outstanding ability, humanity and courtesy with humane approach in every field. His death is great loss for the legal fraternity. The lessons learnt from his life and service will keep guiding us at all times.

Bansal demands land for employees’ housing

Chandigarh: Former Union Minister and former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal on Tuesday demanded that a part of the land received back from Parsvnath Developers at Rajiv Gandhi Technology Park Habitat Project be used for houses for chandigarh employees and cooperative group housing societies. He said that the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) had got 123 acre land back from Parsvnath Developers in 2015 and recently failed again after repeated attempts to find any bidder for setting up a five-star hotel and housing projects. He pointed that under UT Employees Housing Scheme-2008, employees paid huge amount of money (Rs 57 crores) almost a decade back, and the CHB should make flats for them under the Habitat Project besides other proposed commercial and residential projects.

Dr Kansra takes over as Punjab DHS

Chandigarh: Dr Naresh Kumar Kansra, MBBS, Ortho, on Tuesday took over as Punjab’s new Director Health Services (Family Welfare). He joined service as a Medical Officer in Gurdaspur in 1983, to be later elevated as Senior Medical Officer of Civil Hospital Dasuya in 2009. He also served as Chief Chemical Examiner and later as Civil Surgeon of Gurdaspur district. Before joining, he was serving as Pathankot Civil Surgeon since 2016. Among his priorities as new DHS (Family Welfare), would be smooth implementation of national health programmes and better health facilities for patients in government health institutions.

BJP to hold ‘Bajao Dhol, Kholo Pol’ rally on Mar 18

Patiala: Punjab BJP’s former president and national executive member Kamal Sharma on Tuesday said that Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government has miserably failed on all fronts with the Congress Ministers and MLAs plundering resources of state with both hands. Sharma, addressing a meeting of workers for party’s ‘Bajao Dhol, Kholo Pol’ rally scheduled for March 18 in Jalandhar, said that even after completing first year, Capt Amarinder government is yet to wake up from deep slumber. He said Jalandhar rally will be a big success as the people of Punjab are completely fed-up with the government in just one year of rule.

Chandigarh: Zerodha, technology-driven brokerage firm, on Tuesday said it has a user base of over 7 lakhs across India and has added clients at a rate of 249 per cent in one year.   In Punjab, Zerodha has offices in Chandigarh, Amritsar and Ludhiana with a client base of over 7500 and touchpoint of 1 branch office and 2 partner offices.

HP CS to contribute to making of Martyrs memorial

Shimla: Himachal Chief Secretary Vineet Chawdhry has announced to contribute his one day salary towards Martyrs memorial to be constructed under ‘Ek Eint Shaheed ke Naam’ campaign in the Bilaspur district. Convener of the campaign, Sanjeev Rana said that objective of construction of Martyrs’ memorials was to make people aware of the coming generations of sacrifices made by these brave persons.
